Documentation of STARDUST interactive performance at ST Helene’s Chapel
An Ode to Stars
AS the world turned Away, and some looked Away, and others could not, and stared deep, deep into the sea, into stars, of Lives and Light.
Stardust is an interactive performance and video installation on the cycle of life recounted through light and rhythm. Stardust premiered at St. Helena’s Chapel, a church on Meşrutiyet Caddesi located in Istanbul, in September 2017. The installation in a darkened church allowed the audience an immersive experience with the meditative work, a reflection on the transcendence between material and immaterial states and the current dichotomy of global political systems and the living, breathing individual. The video is of the beautiful waters of the Aegean Sea (between Bodrum and Kos); the music and poetry were composed and written as an audial and narrative reflection of the video and the ideas embedded within. As the audience became participants, their movements resulted in the spreading of stars around them and their movements. The Stardust soundpiece was created through a collaboration between Sylvie Degiez, Michael Kiaer & Gül Kozacioglu. The installation was exhibited during the opening month of September of the 15th Istanbul Biennale, and produced by Balım Tanrıöver with the kind support of PTT Film and CI.
